My Vit, D is in the basement (not a huge surprise because I live in Maine and we have about two hours of sun lately. Okay really not that little but it seems like it.)

The Shocker was that I am Diabetic which I am having trouble processing. (the Nurse called) and I am not seeing the dr. til the 23rd. I do have to go to the diabetic center and see them, I am just kinda at a loss right now. wondering WHAT THE HEY!!!

Oh Heaven, I’m sorry to hear that. Please keep us updated after you go to the diabetic center.

Ugh! Diabetes is a bad word in our house. I’ve been pre-diabetic for years…or in insulin resistance. I’m fighting it so hard with diet in particular. But I need to get my act together and work on exercise too. We can’t afford the diabetic meds.

I’m sorry to hear this. Years ago my blood sugar was elevated a little. I started exercising and watching what I eat and thankfully my numbers went down. Now if I can just get the cholesterol down. Seriously, please keep us posted. Hugs from the Peach state.

Oh Heaven! Sorry!! My vitamin D is about as low as it gets! …I forget to take my supplement too!

Diabetes…well my dad has had it many years and always ate how he wanted and yes, his numbers were sky high, even on meds! Hubby was diagnosed a few years ago. We went to see the dietician that the dr recommended ( insurance paid it!) went to see her a few times and I calculated everything hubby ate for a long time, well still do but a lot of stuff I just know in my head now.! He lost a little weight. Was walking most days, lately not but trying to get back at it. His blood test have been in the normal range since about 6 months after diagnosis. No meds…just food, weight loss and a little bit of exercise. Cutting carbs and upping protein and veggies is what works for him. Of all the diseases you can have, the dietician told us this is one of the best because you can control it. Dr told him once you have diabetes you always have it but to look at his numbers now he does not test in a diabetic range.

It is a hurdle…you can get over it! I know you can!

Serious business, that diabetes. But… the positive side is that by knowing it now, perhaps you can make some lifestyle changes that will result in greater good. Hang in there!

we should start a group for that.

Obviously this is not what you wanted to hear from your doctor but it can be managed. My brother in law was diagnosed last year and followed his diet, he lost 40 lbs. and is off meds/insulin now. He is probably healthier now than pre-diabetes. I hope this doesn’t interfere with your travel plans.

There is a groups feature. Want me to open one and we can all try it out? I haven’t tested it before, so might take me a few days to sort out how it works. LOL

If you do, just let me know what you want to call it and I’ll open it.

that is a great idea, and a reason to try it. Call it I don’t know ummmmm something cool or fun.

I am a sugar addict! I have found that if I can cut it out for a few days or so, that I don’t crave it as much and an apple or orange will have the sweetness that I desire. If though I go back to sugar, I am like a junkie. Thanks mom. When was a kid, it was not uncommon for us to have cake for breakfast. :scream:

Keep in mind, I have no idea what I’m doing yet with the groups. I have no idea if I set it up right or what. LOL

Here it is so far:

OK I think I have it now. Geesh. How confusing! We can make the name whatever. I was just trying to see how the heck to create a group. I think I have to still adjust settings.

I don’t know. I don’t see this as a real groups feature. It seems silly. I don’t know if I did it wrong. But creating a group is basically just creating a private forum. It doesn’t work as nice as Vbulletin groups did. I know they’ve been working on improving it, but it really shouldn’t show on the list of forums. It should be a separated page and should be clickable from the groups page versus trying to find it on the forum category.

At any rate, the link in my previous post above, allows people to join! We can test it out and hopefully, it will improve in the future or I’ll improve in the future. LOL

So what exactly is a group? Like a private pm in group format?

It’s a private group forum category to join. It won’t be visible to the public unless they join. Kind of nice if you have things you want to share, but don’t want random internet people seeing it. Also nice because if you post, then you know the people in the group want to read what you say because they joined.

There are times that I consider making this entire forum private.

OK. So I guess you click here to join: https://community.qtbird.com/groups/CreateYourPlate

The link can also be found by clicking the little hamburger menu next to the magnifying glass and click the link that says “groups”:

Then you click the group “Create Your Plate”

And should see a join button.

Then you’ll see new posts come up as they’re posted like any other forum post. Or you can go straight to the category because it will be visible and only hidden for people that haven’t joined.
