Usually I decorate during the Thanksgiving weekend. oops. I don’t think it’s going to happen this year.
I will try to get the outdoor decorations up before we get hit with really cold weather. This week is supposed to be in the 40s, so I better get to it.
I’ll probably wait to put the tree up until the kids get back to school. They can put the ornaments on, but I can get the tree up and the lights on it. It will go more smoothly for me that way.
I wait till after Dec. 1 st. Right now there is a bit of a concern as to where we’ll put the Christmas tree. We just don’t have room for one in the house. I may have to move DH’s comfy chair, with accompanying side table and lamp into the dining room. He’s not going to be happy about that! He’d just as soon we skipped Christmas.
I usually do it the weekend after Thanksgiving, but I didn’t quite get to it this weekend.
I am hoping to get it done next weekend.
I don’t mind decorating, but for some reason, I am a total grinch about a Christmas tree. I could totally do without it.
We have a fake tree we bought on clearance about 10 years ago and it’s easy enough to put together, so that’s not it. I just feel like it’s such an enormous decoration. And then we never have time to take it down. If I could take it down right after Christmas, I’d be good, but DH likes it to stay up until Epiphany, and then I’m back to work and…well, let’s just say that one year, it was our St. Patrick’s Day activity to take down the tree.
Amy, The joke around here is the year I had the Christmas tree in our downstairs family room versus upstairs living room. Well our cat knocked it down over and over. We finally tied the tree to the wall with yarn. I was so sick of setting up the tree multiple times that I left it up until…wait for it…MARCH! It was out of the way and back then, we didn’t use that room much. But everyone jokes if the tree is up after the first week of Jan. if I am leaving it up until March or just leaving it up until next Christmas.
My problem is that I have to be the one to put it away. I don’t care who takes it all out of the boxes or even where they put it away (attic, garage or basement) after i take it down and pack it all up, But I have to put everything away the way that I want it to be so nothing is tangled or gets broken. I want our tree branches organized so it’s not this big heap of branches to sort through. The colors on the ends is wearing off and it gets hard to tell the colors on the branches to match up to the trunk. And did I mention our artificial tree sheds?
Well you got me motivated ladies. I swapped the floor lamp with the table lamp, clearing off the “end table” cabinet beside DH’s chair. I pulled out the small Christmas tree and a few decorations to scatter around the living room. Even got DH to help pull things down. And put up with the caustic comments of “I know about people like you…next thing you know we’ll be putting it up after Thanksgiving!” (he’s referring to Canadian Thanksgiving in October). I just smiled and teased him with “not a bad idea!”
I told him my friends already had their houses decorated, and they do. I was to church this morning and was surprised by all the people with houses already decorated for the season. He grumbled “We’re not “your friends”!” I just smiled and continued decorating. He’s such a grinch I just ignore him.
I’ve left the decorations down for more decorating throughout the week. By Friday the ones we don’t use should be back up in the cupboard above the coat closet.
We only leave the tree up until Epiphany ourselves. That’s when the Three Wise Men supposedly showed up with gifts. Though when you look at the real calendar of events, the entire nativity is said to actually have taken place in spring.
