Roomba Anyone?

I’m thinking of maybe getting a Roomba. I just don’t always have the time to sweep around here, and while it’s not a deep clean, it would keep the dust and dirt off the floor, which would make me happier. I don’t have pets, so it’s not like I have pet hair, but I have kids. DH says it’s not a good idea because we have stuff on the floor, but I think it would be okay because it has sensors. And, maybe it would encourage people to pick their crap up off the floor.

Anyone have one or know someone who does?

I had one for the same reasons you gave. At first it was great…and then just stopped working. Had it worked on and still would not go. It did tend to get stuck at times. I would get another one, but hubs is not in favor.

Gabe offered to buy one for me about a year or so ago. I love the idea of one but we do not live in a Roomba friendly home. We are more of a shop vac type of family. I vacuum (Upright vac) and sweep daily. No choice in it. I didn’t vacuum for two days here this past week and It really showed! I also use the shop vac often. I don’t think typical households need to.
We also have so many obstacles. I think it would break an hour after we owned one. I’m constantly bending down to pick up things like hair ties, plant leaf, or a q-tip a cat has somehow found or paper clips or pencils etc. it’s like a nonstop always picking up type of house.
I have a routine to just maintain. Once the kids move out? Sure. Maybe then. But I still think it would break from a random pet toy or fur or something.
Absolutely love that they exist and maybe someday but definitely not now.
I think it really depends on the home.

And that’s the issue we have here, too. I do NOT vacuum every day. I don’t even vacuum every week. So, the Roomba would be a great thing to take care of that. BUT…I can’t guarantee that there wouldn’t be stuff on the floor that could get caught and break it. So, I guess it’s a no for now until the kids are all gone.

Maybe use it for rooms like your library. I want one. I really do. I took down the tree and used the upright vacuum and the shop vac for a few plant leaves. I think one of my big obstacles is shoelaces! I wish we had a mudroom! We have some shoes on a rack but others on a boot tray and others simply lined up. Of course, my upright sucked in a shoelace and almost broke a belt.
I also have 10 plant stands. Right now on the floor, I have a power strip which used to always not be on the floor but there it is being also used to charge my phone and Kindle, a freaking guitar in its case leaning against the wall, three types of cat condos in various heights, an open music stand, a tuba(!!!) and a bag of mismatched socks in the living room. I feel like I’m asking too much from the Roomba. LOL
