So I have a Keurig and honestly, I’m not sure where it is at the moment. I loved the idea of it, enjoyed it briefly and then set it aside and went back to my regular coffee pot. I did have the refillable solofill/k-cup to cut down on costs and yet I stored it away because by golly, those single cups became a pain! I’m not a casual one-cup coffee drinker. And it’s been so long since I’ve used it, I’m not sure if it’s in the basement, garage, or where. oops What happened to minimalist me?
On a side note, I re-subscribed to fly lady who is now filling my email with guilt a few times a day. LOL I’m having flashbacks of why I unsubbed years ago. No offense, I love the whole concept and program, but it’s not happening. Not today, anyway.
On a similar note, I bought the kids a soda stream a few years ago, too. We used it enough to need a couple of refill cartridges, but now it’s collecting dust. oops again.
Have you bought either of these things? Are you still actively using them? How about any other appliances/gadgets that you felt compelled to buy, but didn’t end up being as useful as you initially thought.
Give me strength! I’ve been known to want appliances and waiting a long time before I actually buy it. Always hoping the appeal will just disappear. Sometimes it does pass. But usually what happens is the price decreases just enough over that waiting time to make me go for it. ugh Appliances and gadgets are my weakness. Fortunately, I do not buy tons of worthless appliances. But I did recently buy a new waffle iron and am not sure why I needed one that flips. See? I have gaps. Frugal gaps. Even after all of these years.
I did come across this. Phew! Thanks Popular Science for snapping me back to reality. I can rig up my own sous vide.
Okay I thought I posted this but I guess I was at the store and forgot, see I’m telling you mind muddled, anyway I have both, suckered right into the hype, loved loved loved it, where to start,
Kureg have one has the cafe with it, makes 4cups at once, latest and greatest and I love it, on sale Wal-Mart was going to be cheaper with the gift card promo (can’t remember how much) than the cheapest one. So happy with that, use it every morning…
Now the soda stream I was giddy for that one, (if you know me you’ll know my personality isn’t ever giddy about anything. So very happy gonna make my own soda, I’m never gonna have to buy a can to return ( hate that most of all). So I buy it and I’m excited and I make the water and I add the syrup and it is yucky, so I try another one, don’t like that either, needless to say tried 7 different syrups and hated them all, drinking more plain water now. But I must admit I still buy cans and I still collect them til I run out of room or convince someone else to return them.
I’m not sure why I got the single serve Keurig. I guess I was thinking about the times that I made a full pot and only wanted one cup. The 4 cup with carafe would have been great. Right now I have a Bunn coffeemaker that is super fast and I like it. Guess what? It’s single serve! But I can make a giant-sized mug.
I didn’t mind the soda stream flavors we tried. Definitely not like the name brand, but the kids enjoyed it. I just grew real tired of the cartridges. I look at it sometimes and think maybe during the holidays I’ll break it out again.
I himmed and hawed then finally broke down and bought a French press (in NM and kureg was in Maine) and I love it, but I find I’m not using it at all any more
We don’t drink coffee, so no Keurig. However we were visiting my BIL and he and his wife had some kind of small appliance that made regular water with lemon and/or lime into a carbonated drink. They said they bought it at Canadian Tire. You have to buy the replacement cartridges there for it too. I was momentarily smitten by it as a way to get more water into myself and DH. But realized we have no counter space for it or place to store it, so we didn’t go shopping for it.
No soda gadget here, but I do have the single serve coffee maker and love it. We each drink a cup of coffee in the mornings, and I’ll have a cup of tea in the afternoon and/or evening. The single serve machine is great for our lifestyle. The cups can be pricey, but I have two of the “fill your own” type of cups, plus… we have a salvage discount food store near us, and can get so many kinds of k-cup coffee, teas, chai, cocoa, etc for very little. Here’s an idea of how little: They had cartons filled with 24 boxes of k-cup varieties, all kinds, flavors, brands, regular, decaf, etc. Each box held 10-12 k-cups. And the entire carton was $5. That’s pretty cheap coffee!!! Our problem is that we have gone thru 3 machines. One blew up, literally blowing the top off. One just slowly died. We are on a third one now, a Mr. Coffee, that seems to work well.
Oh wow. What an incredible deal on the coffee! I loved having the variety of coffee. I do miss that part. I wish I knew where the heck I put my machine. I am definitely going on a hunt for all missing appliances tomorrow.
Oh my gosh. I just realized another appliance that I don’t know where it went.
I have a steamer. Somewhere. It’s a two stack type. I don’t know where it is.
Am I getting old? I honestly can’t believe all the appliances I have somehow stashed away somewhere or given away. I used to use this often. I’m going on a hunt to see what I can find RIGHT NOW. This is crazy!
OK. I found an appliance that I don’t even ever remember buying and it looks brand new. A Rival Ice Shaver/Snow Cone/Slush Maker. Alrighty then. I’m still looking around here.
I also found a casserole dish with a lid that I am hauling out for Thanksgiving. LOL
The best part was Gabe is here doing training. He has a headset on and I bring this into the dining room and I asked, what the heck is this? LOL I didn’t even know what it was!
We have had a Keurig for many years. Bought at Costco on coupon. It is perfect for us. Hubbby fills his travel cup for work and I make a cup several hours later. We never buy the k cups though. Hubbby grinds Starbucks beans that I stock up on when on sale and stick in freezer. We bought it so long ago they didn’t have the one that can also make a pot of coffee but when this one quits I will get that one for more options. To me the best tasting coffee is what we have when camping. We use a percolator and make it in the burner in trailer.i keep thinking we need to do this on weekends but so far have not.
I am kind of a sucker for small kitchen appliances. I did get rid of my snow cone machine and steamer though. I hate to admit I have been thinking about one of those George Forman grills…I saw how you can grill veggies on them and they looked so good! Probably something I should look for second hand…
