Besides giving up cosmetics how do you minimize your product number.? I do use lip stick as blush… in all honesty I would like to throw out all my cheap make up and replace with high end. Love my loreal Fondation and lipstick. But hate my eyeshadow palettes it ends up under my eye . I love my urban decay powder and spray. My skin is very oily and this does reduce my shine and meltdown dramatically . .
We each have different needs, so my answer will only reflect me…and is not intended as advice. I don’t wear much makeup. My skin does much better without it. I wash with hot water and immediately before face dries, I apply coconut oil or a moisturizer with sunscreen…if I am going to be outside. I use moisturizer lip gloss and sometimes lipstick that I got at Dollar tree. That’s it for me.
Oh my god its like you read my mind. I was decluttering and tossing my cosmetics last night. I have a rule for buying new stuff. I use sephora or ulta and I have membership rewards with both. I only buy stuff I know I love, no experimenting. If you go in store and try something out and have to have it yes, buy it, but only if you know its something you can use daily. I do not buy special occasion cosmetics except false eyelashes. I buy pallets for eyeshadow that have a range of colors from nudes to smokey darks. I love the Urban Decay Smokey pallet, very little fallout. Also, bobby brown has great nude pallets. Of course these are way pricier than stuff you find at walmart or target but it seriously lasts years so investing in good products pays off.
For preventing melting get a good eyelid primer, if you order on sephora a lot of times you can get a primer as a free sample and they last for quite a long time because you only use a tiny bit each time. And get a good setting spray, again, Urban decay has a great one.
With lipstick I have my go to that I always wear and never really buy anything else, Clinique black honey almost lipstick. I’ve been wearing it for over 20 years.
I think the best thing women can do to minimize their collection is to find a signature look and stick with it, maybe dress it up with a bit of shimmer eyeshadow when you need to look a bit more dressed up and slap on lashes.
That being said, most days I only wear mascara and even that is one that i buy over and over again, Too Faced Better Than Sex. And I don’t use an eyelash primer either, I know some women do because it helps with length and volume and melting but I have pretty good natural eyelashes and have never really had the melting problem with the Too Faced mascara (I did with the Dior Show waterproof…ooof, never again).
At this point I am down to one small drawer of makeup in my vanity. There was a time when I had to use a shelf to store it all.
Oh, and I buy only drug store eyeliner. Mabeline. But I’ve used the same eyeliner since I was in high school and it does the job. I’m not a cat eye girl, just a nice line on top of the lash line and a bit of tight-lining if I put on lashes. That’s it.
I won’t be much help. I love cosmetics, but I don’t wear much, so I don’t have a lot on hand. I have tinted BB cream, pressed powder, blush, mascara, eye shadow pallet, lipstick and some glosses. I have eyeliner and wear that sometimes. I use the same mascara from Ulta as @Alena. I love that mascara! Worth every penny! Can’t go back to anything else now. LOL Everything fits in a small cosmetic bag.
