Got any non-frugal habits to 'confess'?

Some of us probably have non-frugal habits we’re happy with and don’t plan to intentionally change any time soon. I subscribe to too many magazines (homestead & gardening ones)…and I have a low threshold for buying books about composting, simple living, edible gardening and self-reliance.
I rationalise all these bad habits by the thought that I can take the money I save from being frugal…and spend it on something that is non-frugal that brings me joy! I love how there’s always a way to square it off with my conscience!:icon_bigg

Yeah, I must admit to an addiction to electricity. In particular, room lighting and computers. <sigh> You’d think at my age I’d know better.

Yes, definitely computers and high-tech gadgets. I know I shouldn’t, but they’re just so much fun!

Gas for the car. I really feel better if I can take a drive in the country. I rationalize it by saying it’s for my mental health:icon_smil

My $10 a gallon goat milk. It’s so healthy and I make yogurt from it, so it has to worth the money!

I also confess to buying too many books because there is no library in our town.

And container/organizers…I love containers of any kind: purses, boxes, plastic bins, baskets, tubs, shelves, binders. I really have to tell myself, “NO”. My daughter is the same way. Must have inherited it from my dad; Mom is so unorganized. Someday, I want to go to the Container Store and have a blast.

I have quite a few - and probably a few more that I don’t even consider non-frugal! There are a few items that I hate to skimp on - usually hair products. The cheap ones just don’t work on my hair so I rationalize that I use a lot less of the more expensive products!

going out to lunch on weekdays. Also, wasting food by purchasing big lots and not using it all.
Also, wasting food by purchasing big lots and not using it all.
:yeahthat: I too, especially when I’m working will have to throw out some vegetable (usually lettuce) that has gotten bad before it’s eaten. I’m also a fabric-aholic. Put me in a fabric store and I can walk out with fabric and trims which may be in my closet for years before used. At least it doesn’t spoil and as we “speak” I have cut out a new clothespin bag from fabric bought more than 7 years ago! I love the feel, look, and even smell of fabric!!

Oh, my, Nae, I forgot about fabric. I just bought several pieces yesterday and now have to make sure they are used before school starts or it will be years, as you say.

But Diane, fabric doesn’t spoil!!

That’s true, but it will collect dust. I’ve been through the “saving fabric for time to sew” period and ended up giving away no telling how many dollars worth of fabric, patterns, and notions. I’m just trying to be more realistic, not let myself go overboard, and make myself just do it, like Nike used to say. If I wait until after school starts, it will never happen. I’m a real procrastinator, so I have to put limits on myself.

My DH buillt deep shelves from floor to ceiling in the closet of my sewing room for fabric, notions, patterns, quilting books, cross stitch fabric and books. I have my own “store” and sometimes I shop there instead of getting new! Very, very non-frugal! :frowning:

sounds like a little slice of heaven

Makeup. I just started wearing more make up. I hate cheap up it doesn’t last on my face. But I keep buying it. Going to try to minimize my make up this year.

I stop at the Quick Check (like 7-11) at least one day a week to pick up a breakfast sandwich and a tea on my way to school. I’ll be honest, I think it’s really just that I hate cooking and I enjoy having some food item made for me. And it’s delicious, of course, but if I’m really analyzing, it is probably more because of the cooking thing.

Wine and beer. Z and I drink a few times a week (not this month for me, I am doing Sober January). And I cannot bring myself to buy cheap fast fashion type clothes. I usually wear clothes that I buy for years so if its not quality (read: expensive) it won’t last. So we don’t skimp on clothes for Z and I. We do for the kids because they grow fast and ruin things constantly.

Craft supplies. Sigh,…

Yep. My hobbies…yarn for knitting, fibre for spinning, wool and supplies for rug hooking, oh, and paper and scrapbooks for scrapbooking. Though I can find it all relatively cheap secondhand online, it’s not always easy to get to it in a timely fashion, especially with DH doing the driving these days. And it still costs money…

Electrolysis…on my chin, upper lip and eyebrows…i go every three weeks. As I am getting less hairy the price is going down since she charges by the minute. We do not pay for any salon services and get salon products at cost so it’s my only personal care splurge so I am fine with it as long as we can afford it.

We buy beer too. No wine anymore,I actually don’t like it anymore and hubby never did. In my opinion it is frugal to buy your own and have it at home with your own home cooked food. No it’s not a necessity but most things aren’t ( in my personal opinion)

I think it comes down to us being frugal in some areas to be able to spend in other areas.
